The Vacancy

NYAS are looking to recruit, Self-Employed Social Workers to work alongside a solicitor in the NYAS tandem model, when the Court have appointed NYAS as Guardian for a child or young person in private family law proceedings, in circumstances where the parents cannot agree on what is in the best interest of their children, necessitating the child to have an independent voice and on welfare decisions about them. Listening to and hearing the children and their wishes and feelings.

The appointment of NYAS is under Rule 16.4 of the Family Procedure Rules 2010.

As a NYAS caseworker, you will be making recommendations to the Court on what you believe what decision the court should make, ensuring the welfare of the child is your paramount consideration in everything you do.

NYAS will expect you to be a qualified social worker, with no less than 5 years’ experience of children’s social care, registered with Social Work England.

You will complete reports and assessments, that will require you to work directly with children to understand their lived experiences, have appropriate skills to obtain a child’s individual wishes and feeling, taking into account any special needs the child may have, demonstrate strong analysis of risk to ensure the children’s safety, and articulate your findings and recommendations in a high-quality assessment. Consulting where necessary with a other professionals to inform that assessment.

NYAS expects its independent social workers to be organised to ensure that court deadlines are met, have excellent interpersonal skills, be resilient, confident and strong in their views, including when giving oral evidence to a Court. You will be compassionate and curious and can form professional relationships with the parents and children building up trust in that relationship with the aim of achieving the best possible outcome for the children.

This position is self-employed and you will be responsible for access to your own IT equipment and preparing your financial accounts and declarations to HMRC with regards to tax.

You will need to evidence your continuing professional development and keep this up to date. To support this, you will have access, for minimal cost, to a training platform, supporting obligations for mandatory training to comply with your obligations to Social Work England.

You will have best practice reviews with the NYAS social work best practice manager to ensure continued high quality social work practice is maintained. An opportunity to meet other NYAS caseworkers through monthly best practice meetings held on Microsoft teams, enabling easy access for all.
