Location: Derbyshire

An established and growing business in Derbyshire is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join its finance team. This role would suit an experienced Bookkeeper who is comfortable managing day-to-day accounts, working to deadlines and supporting wider finance functions.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting management with timely and reliable financial information.

Key Responsibilities

Bookkeeping & Accounts
Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records
Processing sales invoices, credit notes and receipts
Posting and reconciling purchase invoices and supplier payments
Managing the purchase and sales ledgers
Completing bank, credit card and petty cash reconciliations
Posting journals, including accruals and prepayments
Preparing trial balances and supporting month-end processes
Assisting with management accounts preparation
VAT, Payroll & Compliance
Preparing and submitting VAT returns under relevant schemes
Supporting payroll processes where required
Maintaining compliance with HMRC requirements
Assisting with audit queries and year-end processes
Systems & Reporting
Using accounting software to maintain accurate records
Updating spreadsheets and internal financial reports
Identifying and resolving discrepancies in financial data
Liaison & Support
Liaising with internal stakeholders and external accountants
Responding to finance-related queries in a timely manner

Requirements
Proven experience in a Bookkeeping role
Good working knowledge of UK accounting practices
Strong understanding of VAT
Experience using accounting software (Sage, Xero or QuickBooks advantageous)
Strong IT skills, particularly Excel
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
Confident working independently and as part of a team
Qualifications
AAT qualification or equivalent experience preferred (not essential)
