Description

We are seeking new and experienced Freelance Activity Support Workers to join our team. As a freelance Activity Support Worker you will support the delivery of short term activity breaks to children and young people who present with social, emotional, and mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities

Direct support and relationship-based practice
• Provide compassionate, trauma-informed support to children and young people
• Build positive, trusting relationships through shared activities and meaningful engagement
• Support emotional regulation, self esteem and resilience
• Support daily routines, boundaries and structure in a calm and compassionate manner
• Encourage young people to recognise strengths, develop coping strategies and celebrate achievements

Activity-based support
• Assist with indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring safety and appropriate risk management at all times
• Encourage participation, teamwork and enjoyment while adapting to individual needs, triggers and limits
• Support safe use of equipment and contribute to maintaining a safe environment

Safeguarding and professional practice
• Follow safeguarding procedures and maintain the highest standards of protection for young people
• Maintain clear professional boundaries and uphold policies, procedures and values
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals to ensure consistent, high-quality support

Person Specification

Essential
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust
• A strong commitment to safeguarding and understanding of professional boundaries
• Ability to work collaboratively, adapt quickly and remain calm under pressure
• Compassion, resilience and a proactive, solutions-focused mindset
• Willingness and ability to participate in physically active work
• Right to work in the UK
• Clean UK Driving Licence

Desirable
• Experience supporting children/young people in challenging circumstances (care, education, youth work, residential, mental health, outdoor leadership etc.)
• Understanding of trauma-informed practice, PACE and low-arousal approaches
• Outdoor activity qualification(s) or relevant experience
• First aid certificate
